ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has resumed granting Class Licenses for Data Services, a move that aims to foster a secure, transparent, and innovative digital ecosystem in Pakistan.

This license is a requirement for Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers to offer their services in the country.

According to PTA’s announcements, all VPN service providers must obtain a Class License for Data Services in order to offer VPN and other related services. It is interesting to note here that this license does not encompass the provision of Internet Services. Local Loop Licensees could but need to obtain separate prior permission that has not yet been acquired.

In a different move, PTA in conjunction with FIA Cyber Crime Circle Karachi raided a retailer who was illegally selling mobile boosters and amplifiers and seized 25 mobile booster sets.

The primary purpose of this operation was to combat illegal activity and ensure safe custodianship of the digital ecosystem in Pakistan.

The Class License for Data Services can be obtained online from the PTA’s official website. This is a part of PTA’s endeavor to protect the interests of its users and stakeholders while shifting towards a safe and innovative digital ecosystem in Pakistan.
