Punjab introduces new rules for government vehicle registration

Locations announced for vehicle emission testing Islamabad

LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced new rules and regulations regarding the registration and transfer of ownership of government vehicles. These rules aim to bring transparency, monitoring and administrative improvements in the system.

Under the new policy, significant changes have been made in the procedure for the use of government vehicles, purchase of electric vehicles and allotment of vehicles to officers.

Now, it will be mandatory to obtain prior approval from the Finance Department before purchasing electric vehicles. In addition, government vehicles will be allotted only to officers of grade 17 and above. The monthly petrol limit for officers has been increased by 25 liters.

The process of registration and transfer of ownership has also been made more integrated and uniform under the new system. According to officials, this will reduce legal complexities and help prevent fraud or illegal transfers.

Experts say that these reforms are part of developing the transport management system in Punjab on modern lines, which is expected to improve public convenience and government administration.

Under the policy, all stages of purchase and allotment of government vehicles will be under strict supervision. This move will increase financial transparency and reduce unnecessary use of resources. The new policy is effective immediately and instructions have been issued to the relevant institutions to strictly implement it.
