Crackdown intensified by SNGPL on Gas theft

WEB DESK: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has stepped up its efforts to combat gas theft with a series of targeted raids in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad.

The crackdown resulted in the disconnection of 347 unauthorized connections, along with fines totaling Rs3.47 million.

According to an SNGPL spokesperson, the regional team carried out the disconnections based on a variety of violations. In one case, 13 connections were severed due to illegal gas use, while 23 were disconnected for using compressors improperly.

In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the team took decisive action by disconnecting 98 connections involved in illegal gas consumption, resulting in fines of Rs0.30 million.

In Multan, the crackdown resulted in the disconnection of 25 connections for illegal gas use and another 25 for compressor-related violations. The team imposed fines of Rs0.050 million in gas theft cases.

Peshawar and Karak saw the disconnection of 93 connections due to direct and illegal gas usage, with fines totaling Rs3.05 million. In Mardan, four connections were disconnected for illegal gas use, and 12 for compressor violations.

In Sahiwal, three connections were also severed as a result of compressor use. Three connections in Faisalabad were disconnected due to compressor use, while 47 connections in Sheikhupura were disconnected for illegal gas usage, resulting in a Rs0.03 million fine. The Sargodha regional team also turned off a connection due to illegal gas use.

SNGPL’s decisive action demonstrates its commitment to reducing gas theft and maintaining the integrity of the gas distribution network.

The fines imposed act as a deterrent, sending a clear message that such unauthorised activity will not be tolerated.
