Fact check: Punjab govt declares holiday in Lahore on Khadim Rizvi’s Urs?

UAE announces public holiday for 1st Muharram, 3-Day weekend ahead

LAHORE: The claim of a public holiday in Lahore in the wake of the third Urs of late Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi on November 21 (today) is false.

A graphic circulating on social media platforms claimed that the Punjab government announced a public holiday on Thursday to commemorate the death anniversary of the far-right TLP founder.

The post referring to a private news channel claimed that November 21 will be observed as a holiday to honor Khadim Hussain Rizvi’s death anniversary.

Fact check

As the rumor spread online, the provincial government denied the authenticity of the claim, adding that no such holiday had been declared.

Furthermore, Lahore Traffic Police issued a traffic plan for areas surrounding Madrassa Rahmatullil Alameen.

Samanabad Chowk towards Yateem Khana Chowk, Shah Fareed Chowk towards Sabza Zar Chowk, City Adda/Rehber Adda, Rahim Store, and Bijli Ghar Chowk towards Yateem Khana will remain closed for traffic on Thursday.

Traffic diversions will be in place in areas including Chowk Yateem Khana, Bund Road, and Multan Road.
