DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has provisionally suspended American batter Aaron Jones ahead of the T20 World Cup for breaching the ICC and Cricket West Indies (CWI) anti-corruption codes.

According to the ICC, the majority of the charges against the 31-year-old batsman relate to the 2023-24 BIM10 tournament, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI anti-corruption code, while two charges relate to international matches that fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC.

The charges include fixing, conspiring or unlawfully influencing (or attempting to do so) the result, progress, conduct, or any aspect of a match in the 2023/24 BIM10 tournament.

Failure to provide Cricket West Indies with any offer or contact details would constitute a breach of the anti-corruption code.

According to the ICC, the allegations are part of a wider investigation, which could lead to charges being brought against other individuals in the coming days.

The ICC said that Jones has been suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect and must respond to the charges within 14 days from January 28, 2026.

Jones’ suspension comes just days before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

The development could force the United States to consider a replacement player for the mega event, as the USA squad has not yet been announced.

It should be noted that Aaron Jones has so far played 52 One-Day Internationals and 48 T20 Internationals representing the United States, in which he has scored a total of 2434 runs with the help of one century and 13 half-centuries.
