KP budget 2022-23: Increases salaries of govt employees by 16% & pensions by 15%

PESHAWAR: The budget for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was presented in the provincial assembly today for the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.

As per details, a budget worth Rs 1,332 billion for the financial year 2022-23 was presented by Finance Minister KP Taimur Saleem Jhagra who was of the view that the province was once prone to terrorism but has now become a hub of investment.

The provincial minister said that the budget of the province for the next financial year has been set at Rs. 1,332.

The salaries of government employees have been increased by 16% and pensions by 15%.

The increase is in addition to DRA for Grade 1 to 19 employees and the police have also been included in it while the police martyrs package Has also been extended.

Timur Saleem Jhagra said that for the first time in history 63000 employees are being made permanent, 58 thousand teachers and more than 4000 employees of 128 projects of former FATA will be made permanent, and 675 ad-hoc doctors will be made permanent from 1st July.

While the health card plus top-up package will start with OPD facilities for all government employees.

Timur Saleem Jhagra said that Rs 68.60 billion would be provided for the war on terror while Rs 85 billion would be collected for provincial taxes.

Besides, foreign aid of Rs 93 billion was also included in the budget. Another revenue is estimated at Rs 212 billion.

He said that the tax revenue of the federation has been estimated at Rs. 570.90 billion while the federal government will get Rs. 31 billion in oil and gas royalty.

In terms of net profit and arrears of electricity, it is expected to receive Rs. 61.90 billion and grants of Rs. 208 billion are expected for the tribal districts.

The provincial minister said that the total development budget of the province covers Rs. 418 billion of which Rs. 319 billion is allocated for the development of settlement districts and Rs. 99 billion for integrated districts.

More than Rs 4 billion has been allocated for external development assistance for the merged districts while Rs 208 billion will be provided for the tribal districts.
