LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, on Friday hit back at PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari over his sewing machine comment a day prior.

“The people who work on sewing machines are the backbone of the economy,” Aleema said while speaking to Geo News after Bilawal targeted her in a hard-hitting press conference on Thursday.

The PPP chairman had criticised PM Imran’s father Ikramullah Niazi and sister Aleema for making assets in the name of a small textile business.

“Bilawal should find out the facts before slandering my father,” she said, adding that her father was an honest and respected person.

Aleema said that her father quit his job in 1960 and started an engineering company. She further added that when her father left his job Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was practising law.

“Bilawal son, you need to gather information about Pakistan,” she said.

Referring to the criticism levelled against her, Aleema said that she has been in the textile business since 1994.

“The standard textile products are made by millions of workers through sewing machines,” she said.

Aleema further added that the textile products of Pakistan are made through these sewing machines.

“It is unfortunate that those who work on sewing machines are ridiculed in the media. They are the backbone of the economy of Pakistan,” she said.

Earlier, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill had said that it is very shameful that the PPP chairman is targeting women in his speeches.

“If he is involving women then he will face consequences,” warned Gill.
