LAHORE: Smog in Lahore turned hazardous when the Air Quality Index reached 802 in Allama Iqbal Town.
The overall AQI in Lahore was recorded at 501, making it the second-most polluted city after Delhi.
On December 12, AQI reached its peak at 497, making Lahore the most polluted city in the world.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that the air quality in the city is expected to stay below par in the days to come.
Anti-smog squads have been mobilised across Lahore, and strict inspection of industrial units has begun to counter the smog effects.
A spokesperson for the Environment Protection Department has said that, on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a comprehensive action plan to curb smog is being implemented, reports said.
Smog guns are continuously operated at places with very high AQI levels, while sprinkling of water through cannons is in progress in many areas of the city.
To this effect, the Local Government Department, in collaboration with the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and WASA, has expedited mutual efforts to clean and wash roads by initiating a massive road-washing drive in the city and its surroundings.
