Heavy rains and floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 people killed

PESHAWAR: Heavy rains wreaked havoc in various cities of the country, 12 people died and 14 were injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to rain and flash floods.

According to rescue officials, 4 people were swept away in the Landi Kotal area of ​​​​Khyber, and 2 people were swept away in the flood.

The vehicle carrying an Afghan family to Torkham was swept away in the flood. There were 16 people in the vehicle, including children and women, 13 people who were swept away were rescued safely. The bodies of 3 deceased people were recovered.

Rescue officials said that more than 100 vehicles stuck on the Pak-Afghan highway have been shifted to a safe place, relief and rescue operations are underway after the torrential rains and floods.

Meanwhile, torrential rains in Upper Dir have caused flooding in rivers and canals, and the flow of water in the Panchkora River has increased.

In addition, mudsliding after heavy rains in the Kaghan Valley has affected the traffic flow on the Kaghan Highway and Lake Saiful Malook Road due to water erosion.

According to the PDMA, 14 houses were affected by the rains and flash floods, of which one house was completely destroyed while 13 were partially damaged.

According to the PDMA, houses were damaged in Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Kurram.

Meanwhile, Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan is also experiencing flooding after torrential rains, which damaged houses, crops and communication roads.

According to the PDMA, 12 people have died and 14 have been injured due to heavy rains and flash floods in the last 24 hours. The deceased include 6 men, 5 children and a woman.
