Heavy smog and fog trigger nationwide alert, travel advisory issued

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Center has issued an alert in view of the possible smog situation in different parts of the country.

According to the NDMA, the increasing smog may affect the traffic flow in several cities.

There is a possibility of a sharp increase in fog and smog in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura in Punjab.

Fog is also expected to increase in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and the upper areas of Sindh.

The NDMA said that visibility is likely to remain low during the night and morning hours till December 20, due to which the risks of traffic accidents increase.

The agency has directed drivers to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy fog and to adopt precautionary measures.

The NDMA has issued instructions to all relevant agencies to take special measures to protect against the effects of fog, and advance measures are being taken to deal with possible risks.

NEOC is also providing timely information to relevant institutions so that any emergency can be dealt with.
