KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted severe cold weather in Karachi on Sunday and Monday, December 29 and 30 due to a significant drop in temperature.

According to the PMD’s Early Warning Center, the minimum temperature in the city may drop to 8 degrees Celsius on both days.

Furthermore, easterly and northeasterly winds are expected to blow, which contributes to dry and cold weather conditions.

The cold wave is affecting various districts across Sindh, with night temperatures likely to drop by 3 to 5 degrees in many areas, while fog is also likely in the upper and central districts during the morning hours.

The PMD reported that Karachi experienced its coldest night of the year, with the official weather station recording a temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Gulistan-e-Jauhar further dropped to 6.5 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature recorded in Karachi was 1.3 degrees Celsius on December 14, 1986.
