Rain, windstorms forecast across country till May 4

ISLAMABAD: An alert has been issued in view of a new and powerful series of stormy rains, in which it has been ordered to remain on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert in view of a new and powerful series of stormy rains in the country.

According to the weather forecast, this new spell of westerly winds will cause heavy rains, windstorms and unusually snowfall in the upper parts of the country in the month of April.

The NDMA says that as a result of this series, thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected in various cities of Punjab including the federal capital Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Sialkot.

The strong wind during this time has also been feared to damage infrastructure.

On the other hand, heavy snowfall has been predicted in the upper mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will significantly reduce the temperature.

The authority has warned that the risk of landslides in mountainous areas may increase due to continuous rains and snowfall, so travelers and tourists have been instructed to avoid unnecessary travel.

Relevant agencies have been ordered to remain on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
