No snowfall expected in Lahore; cold likely until March

Tourists entry banned in northern areas amid heavy snowfall

ISLAMABAD: DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has said that there is no possibility of snowfall in Lahore this winter. He said that the relevant agencies are constantly monitoring the meteorological situation.

The temperature has decreased this year compared to last year, however, the volume of rainfall in Punjab has been quite low. In December this year, Punjab received only 2.5 mm of rainfall, which is 75 percent less than the 11.2 mm of the previous year.

The DG PDMA says that severe fog in Punjab is also a big challenge and unless there is rain, the fog situation cannot improve.

Rain and snowfall have been predicted in Murree and Galiyat after January 17 and 18. Last year, the winter season was longer than usual and this year too, due to the late onset of severe cold, it is likely to be longer.

Irfan Ali Kathia said that the climatic pattern is changing and the cold is likely to continue till March or early April. The weather may become more severe after January 17-18.
