Rain likely in most districts of the country, alert issued

Rain, windstorms forecast across country till May 4

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding rains with wind and thunderstorms in different parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours.

According to the NDMA, there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in various districts of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Sialkot, Tala Gang, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Khushab, Jhang, Mianwali.

According to officials, rain may also occur in the Gilgit-Baltistan areas of Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Hunza, Ghanche and Shigar, while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Poonch, Hattian, Mirpur and Bhimber.

Rain is also predicted in the districts of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Parachinar, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The NDMA has also warned of the risk of glacial lakes erupting in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is also expected in Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar and Zhob of Balochistan, while Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad and Karachi of Sindh.

The NDMA has directed all provincial and district agencies to ensure emergency preparedness to deal with possible weather conditions and citizens to take precautionary measures.
