Weather alert: Pre-monsoon rains to begin from tomorrow

PMD issues new rain forecast

ISLAMABAD: The Met Office on Thursday predicted pre-monsoon rains nationwide from June 20th-23 as wet currents penetrate from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea in the region.

A westerly wave will also approach the upper regions of Pakistan on 20th June. Monsoon currents have arrived in the upcountry, poised to bring a spell of rainfall, PMDs weather report added.

Dust storm/rainfall with scattered heavy falls as well as hailstorms are probable in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Potohar region, and central Punjab districts from 20th to 23rd June with brief gaps.

Dust storms and rainfall are also probable in Balochistans Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kalat, South Punjabs Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Sahiwal districts from 21st to 23rd June.

While dust storms and rain are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad districts of Sindh from 22nd to 24th June. The rain spell is likely to ease very hot weather conditions gradually during the forecast period.

The Met Office has also warned about possible urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi/Islamabad during the forecast period.
