Weather alert: Rain brings relief to northern areas

ISLAMABAD: The weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours, while the southern regions faced extremely high temperatures, according to the Met Office.

Some areas in the north experienced wind and thundershowers, bringing slight relief from the heat, as In Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms were reported.

The highest amount of rainfall was recorded in Upper Dir with 8 mm, followed by Kalam and Chitral with 6 mm each, while areas like Mir Khani, Pattan, and Darosh received 4 mm of rain.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, Gopis received 7 mm, Bagrot 6 mm, Bunji and Astore 4 mm each, Gilgit 3 mm, Chilas 2 mm, and Skardu 1 mm of rain. Meanwhile, in Punjab, Hafizabad recorded 5 mm of rainfall.

Furthermore, in the Southern part of the Country, the highest temperatures were observed in  Nawabshah, 42 degrees Celsius, while in Dadu, Sibi, and Shaheed Benazirabad, the temperature rose to 41 degrees Celsius. Khanpur, Pad Eidan, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan also experienced extreme heat.

According to the weather forecast for Saturday night, Islamabad and nearby areas are likely to remain partly cloudy. Gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected, along with chances of heavy rain and hail in some areas.
