Weather Update: New Rain and Snow Spell Begins

ISLAMABAD: Light rain has started falling in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, while heavy snowfall continues in Galiyat and its surrounding mountainous areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the intensity of the cold has increased, and citizens have been instructed to be prepared for further intensification of the cold.

A new rain-bearing system has entered the country, as a result of which rain and snowfall have started in various areas.

The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain and snowfall in the upper areas of the country from today to tomorrow, and an alert has also been issued in view of the fears of landslides.

Thunderstorms with strong winds are likely in Islamabad at night, while rain is also expected in the Sindh areas of Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu.

More snowfall is expected in Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Shangla, while rain and snowfall are also expected in Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiat, Neelum Valley, and Bagh.

Rain and snowfall are expected in Poonch and Haveli areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while more snowfall is also occurring in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah districts of Balochistan. Roads are likely to be closed due to snowfall in Nushki, Harnai, and Zhob.

PDMA issued an alert to the concerned districts and informed them that heavy machinery is present on the national highways with its staff to minimize possible losses.

Landslides are still feared in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while rain and snowfall have started in Quetta, Kalat, Mastung, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, and Chaman.

The possibility of flooding in the rivers and streams of the mountainous areas has been indicated, in view of which citizens and travelers have been instructed to be cautious.

The Meteorological Department has asked the public to follow weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel to dangerous areas.
