World Cup 2024: Uganda claim first ever T20 World Cup victory with win over PNG

World Cup 2024: Uganda claim first ever T20 World Cup victory with win over PNG

GUYANA: Debutants Uganda survived an early batting collapse at Providence Stadium in Guyana to register their maiden win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as they defeated Papua New Guinea by three wickets in a Group C clash.

Frank Nsubuga and Riazat Ali Shah played an instrumental role in helping Uganda seal a thriller.

Uganda bowlers restricted Papua New Guinea to a small total of 77. Only three PNG batters could reach double figures in a dismal batting performance.

Uganda’s Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi, and Frank Nsubuga showcased impressive bowling action as each of them claimed two wickets.

Both teams hit the ground for this match after defeats in their respective opening matches. PNG resisted against the hosts West Indies in their first Group C match. Meanwhile, Uganda was beaten by Afghanistan who led the group.
