KABUL: Afghan women have decided to raise their voices at the global level against the gender discrimination faced by women in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
According to reports, a women’s advisory and advocacy organization has launched an eight-week international campaign “End Gender Discrimination Now”.
This campaign aims to draw the attention of the international community to the serious human rights violations faced by women and girls in Afghanistan. The organization says that under the Taliban regime, women have been completely excluded from public life.
Girls are being deprived of their basic right to education, which poses serious risks to the future of an entire generation. Citing the statement of British MP Alice McDonald, the report said that Afghan women and girls are currently facing a catastrophic situation.
According to UNESCO, an agency of the United Nations, approximately 2.2 million girls are still deprived of school in Afghanistan. The UN Women report states that eight out of every ten girls are deprived of their right to education, training and employment.
According to reports, there has also been an increase in the public flogging of women in Taliban-controlled areas, which has raised serious concerns among human rights organizations.
