Bangladesh Elections 2026: 2,028 candidates in fray for 299 seats

ISLAMABAD: A total of 2,028 candidates are contesting for 299 seats in the Bangladesh general election, including 50 political parties and independent candidates.

According to Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazl Mohammad Sanaullah, 83 of them are women candidates.

Voting has been postponed due to the death of a candidate in the Sherpur-3 constituency.

According to Election Commission data, out of the total candidates, 1,755 are candidates from political parties, while 273 are independent candidates.

Of the female candidates, 63 are party candidates, and 20 are independent, while 1,692 are party candidates and 253 are independent candidates.

Sanaullah said that polling will be held on February 12 for 299 of the 300 parliamentary seats, with the timings set for 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The Election Commissioner further stated that if voters are waiting inside polling centers after 4:30, their votes will be counted according to the law.
