New York shakes as 4.8 magnitude earthquake hits north-east

NEW YORK: Earthquake tremors were felt in the American city of New York.

According to the American media report, the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.8 on the Richter scale.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was near White Station, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of New York City.

American media say that the tremors of the earthquake were felt at 10:23 a.m. local time.

According to the US authorities, the effects of the earthquake and possible damage are being evaluated.

According to US media, there were no immediate reports of any damage.

This is not the first time an earthquake has hit the East Coast and New York City, with a magnitude 5 earthquake hitting New York City in 1884.
