Six killed as temple roof collapses in Maharashtra

MUMBAI: At least six people died in India after the Yashwadi Temple in Parbhani district of Maharashtra’s roof collapsed.

According to Indian media, the roof in front of the Yashwadi Temple’s dargah collapsed during repair work, trapping 27 people under the rubble.

MLA Rajesh Vitekar said that as soon as the incident was reported, rescue agencies and police reached the spot and participated in the rescue operation.

Rajesh Vitekar said that the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital, while all the people buried under the rubble have been rescued.

He further said that the craftsmen who worked on the roof of the temple were from other states, and the stone used for the work was ordered from Rajasthan.

The work was nearing completion; however, it is believed that there was a delay or negligence in securing the standing pillar, due to which this accident occurred.

According to media reports, the temple is the most popular pilgrimage site in Parbhani district, where 25,000 to 50,000 devotees visit every Saturday.
