Türkiye’s President Erdogan Holds Emergency Meeting Following Warning of Possible Coup

Türkiye’s President Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held an emergency meeting with the heads of intelligence and the ministry of justice after his fellow party member, Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahceli, had warned of a possible coup d’état being prepared by law enforcement agencies, the Turkiye newspaper on Wednesday.

Concern has been raised by the firing of multiple police officers in the security directorate of Ankara who were allegedly connected to the criminal group Ayhan Bora Kaplan.

Digital documents have been seized while searching their residences. According to Bahceli, there may be a plot against the government, and it is not possible to prevent the suspension of several police officers on its own.

Speaking at a party meeting in parliament, the official forewarned of a potential repetition of Turkey’s 2016 coup attempt.

According to the story, Erdogan met with Yilmaz Tunc, the minister of justice, and Ibrahim Kalin, the director of the National Intelligence Organization, in an emergency midnight meeting at the president’s house after Bahceli issued a warning.

The Turkish president is expected to speak on the topic at an expanded meeting of the ruling party in the parliament on Wednesday.
