LONDON: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that Britain will recognize a Palestinian state today.

According to a foreign news agency, the British government has said that the policy is being changed in view of the deteriorating situation in Gaza. And Britain will recognize a Palestinian state this afternoon.

It should be noted that Portugal has also officially announced its recognition of a Palestinian state.

On the other hand, Canada and France are among the other Western countries that are planning to recognize a Palestinian state in the assembly.

These countries are recognizing a Palestinian state at a time when Israel is carrying out a massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which has been described as genocide.

Portugal had announced in July that it intended to do so due to the “extremely worrying developments” in the conflict, which is due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Israel’s repeated threats to annex Palestinian land.

Almost three-quarters of the 193 members of the United Nations have already recognized the state of Palestine.
