TEHRAN: Images of wreckage allegedly from a US fighter jet were published on Iranian state TV on Friday. According to media reports, the stills appear to be from an F-15, while Iranian reports also mentioned an F-35.
Iran has claimed to have shot down two US fighter jets in the past 24 hours. Western media outlets, citing a US official, reported that a two-seater F-15 fighter jet had been ‘downed’ over Iran and that a search for two pilots was ongoing.
Iranian television released an appeal by the authorities for information on the whereabouts of US airmen allegedly shot down over the country, with the TV reports going out in the western province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad “The people of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, dear and courageous people, if you capture and hand over any enemy pilots alive to the police and military forces, you will receive a reward and valuable bonus,” said the anchor.
The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with the conflict now into its fifth week.
Iran has reported over 1,900 deaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed, with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side.
