QUETTA: The cabinet of Balochistan has approved the implementation of the electric bike scheme which aims to deliver cost-effective means of transportation to the public.
The approved scheme was presented in the 21st meeting of the cabinet, where Sarfraz Bugti was the chairperson. Subsidies of 30 percent have been declared for electric bikes for students, working ladies, and government employees.
A government spokesperson said the electric bikes will be accessible through easy installments to all categories of the population. To provide financing, banks will be employed under the scheme, as decided by the cabinet meeting.
It was also reported at the meeting that the provincial government incurs an annual expenditure of Rs. 6 to 7 billion for the medical treatment of about 250,000 gov. employees, which is a lot of money.
The cabinet thus approved a health insurance scheme for government employees and also decided on audits for the advance medical payments and the Public Endowment Fund.
Moreover, the cabinet sanctioned the extension of the Enterprises Development Program to Gwadar, Kech, and Awaran districts. The Chief Minister reiterated that the public funds collected via taxation are the people’s trust, and he termed it unjust that the poor should suffer while a little privileged section is being catered to with the available resources.
