BYD launches compact EV ‘Racco’ in Japan

BYD launches compact EV 'Racco' in Japan

KARACHI: The BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has introduced its new small electric vehicle, the Racco, to the Japanese auto market, posing a major challenge to local companies.

According to foreign media, BYD Auto Japan CEO Atsuki Tofukuji announced that the starting price of the new Racco will be less than 2 million yen (about 12,210 US dollars), including government subsidies.

According to the company, the vehicle will be able to travel at least 210 kilometers on a single charge, which will help it try to gain a prominent position in Japan’s popular “kei-car market.”

Market analysts say that BYD’s new electric vehicle will directly compete with the Nissan Sakura, which is currently Japan’s best-selling electric vehicle.

According to experts, BYD’s breakthrough in Japan is likely to intensify competition among local automakers further, while the low price and reasonable range can play an important role in attracting consumers.
