CDA unveils plan to fully electrify commercial buses

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa has unveiled ambitious plans to electrify commercial vehicles in Islamabad, marking a significant step towards a greener and more efficient public transportation system.

During a meeting, Randhawa emphasized the importance of transitioning from commercial buses to electric buses, which will not only modernize the city’s transport infrastructure but also drastically reduce its carbon footprint.

To facilitate this transition, the chairman directed officials to explore soft loans for commercial transport operators and introduce special incentives to encourage faster adoption of electric mobility.

Randhawa also stressed the need for cooperation with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to secure funding for the initiative, with a focus on earning carbon credits and minimizing environmental impact.

In this connection, the chairman instructed to introduce new regulations to facilitate the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations at Petrol Pumps across the city.

Moreover, charging stations will also be installed near the digital parking facilities recently launched by CDA. The Ministry of Climate Change will be consulted to ensure alignment with the country’s climate goals.

By implementing these measures, Islamabad aims to become a model for sustainable transportation in Pakistan, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating the city’s environmental impact.
