Government’s big decision to manufacture solar panels and batteries in the country

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to manufacture solar panels and batteries locally, the new solar policy is in the final stages, which will end dependence on imports.

According to details, the government of Pakistan has started finalizing the new solar policy under a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the domestic industry, promote renewable energy and reduce dependence on imports.

Speaking on ARY News’ program “On My Radar”, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan revealed that the main goal of this new policy is to move the country from just assembling solar panels to full manufacturing (local production).

Haroon Akhtar Khan said that this important step will significantly reduce the production cost of solar panels in the country, increase local production capacity and promote technological innovation.

He mentioned another important development, saying that the government is now focusing on battery technology, so that the electricity generated from solar during the day can be stored and used at night. Under the project, these batteries and other solar energy equipment will also be manufactured locally.

The Special Assistant clarified that the local production of solar panels and batteries will accelerate the process of transitioning to environmentally friendly and affordable electricity in Pakistan, which will not only create new employment opportunities but will also attract large-scale investment.

He further said that the implementation of this policy will save valuable foreign exchange spent on importing solar equipment, domestic industries will be able to compete globally and Pakistan will be able to achieve long-term energy security.
