ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced important steps to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country.
Under the new policy, the rules for obtaining electricity connections for electric vehicle charging stations have been greatly simplified. Now, more than one electricity connection can be obtained for electric vehicle charging stations at the same building or location.
In addition, if necessary, permission has also been given to get separate connections by installing additional transformers. Earlier, only one electricity connection was allowed at a place, due to which investors faced difficulties.
The new policy aims to increase the number of electric vehicles in Pakistan and rapidly expand the network of charging stations. The government wants to promote environmentally friendly transport in the coming years so that the rising cost of fuel and pollution problems can be reduced.
A special electricity tariff has also been introduced for electric vehicle charging stations under the policy. This tariff will be relatively low compared to the normal commercial rates, so that investors are interested in setting up a large number of charging stations. This move will also provide affordable charging facilities to consumers.
The government has made it clear that the electricity connection obtained will be used only for charging electric vehicles. If the electricity is used for any other purpose, the relevant connection will be disconnected immediately, and an additional fine may also be imposed.
To obtain the connection, the applicant will have to submit an affidavit. This affidavit will ensure that the electricity will be used only for the charging station. This system will also be monitored so that the policy is not misused.
