Govt limits family pension for minors up to age of 21

SHC grants pension rights to daily wage employees

ISLAMABAD: In a recent update, the federal government has  introduced a new policy to limit family pensions for minor children up to the age of 21 due to which the eligible minor children will receive a family pension only until they turn 21 years old.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance the policy will affect family pensioners from September 10, 2024.

The minor children will receive the family pension as per the eligibility and preference criteria outlined in the office memorandum issued on October 23, 2023, Ministry of Finance further stated in the notification.

A minor child will no longer be eligible for the family pension if they become an adult during this time. However, another qualified family member will be entitled to the family pension in the event that the pension-receiving wife dies.

If the wife passes away, the second eligible family member may continue to receive the pension for the remaining 10 years or for a total of 10 years. The family pension will only last for ten years following the wife’s passing or disqualification.
