Govt raises petroleum levy on petrol by Rs15.86 per litre in one week

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs15.86 per litre within a week, pushing the levy to its highest level of Rs80 per litre.

According to official figures, the petroleum levy on petrol stood at Rs64.14 per litre until July 3. The government subsequently increased the levy by Rs6.22 per litre from July 4, followed by another increase of Rs9.64 per litre from July 11.

As a result of these two upward revisions, the petroleum levy on petrol has risen to Rs80 per litre.

Analysts say that if the government had not imposed these levy increases, the price of petrol would have been Rs15.86 per litre lower than the current rate.

At present, the official price of petrol stands at Rs310.71 per litre. Without the additional levy, the price would have been approximately Rs294.85 per litre.

The increase comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to enhance revenue collection and meet fiscal targets, while consumers continue to face higher fuel costs.

The latest adjustment is expected to further impact transportation expenses and overall inflationary pressures across the country.
