Electricity prices

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to consider a request from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for a further Rs5 per unit hike in electricity price.

According to this decision, consumers will bear an additional burden of 310 rupees.

Following NEPRA’s approval, the request for an increase in the basic tariff of electricity underwent a hearing, and the CPPA has granted approval to this request. Based on this approval, the basic tariff of electricity can increase to more than 5 rupees per unit from the next fiscal year.

Members of the CPPA exchanged various opinions regarding the increase in electricity prices. They suggest that due to the increase, consumers will experience a reduction in demand for electricity, which in turn could lead to lower prices.
