Pakistan allows emergency cargo storage at Port Qasim

ISLAMABAD: Global cargo companies had requested Pakistan and neighboring countries for cargo storage to save stranded containers, according to the sources.

According to the official notification issued, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has approved temporary cargo storage at the DP World terminal

The notification further stated that 16.9 acres of land at Port Qasim are reserved for international transshipment cargo

Sources revealed that Pakistan has a current capacity of 32,000 containers. Permission for off-dock terminals will create capacity for another 50,000 containers.

The government expects to earn additional revenue from terminal charges. Terminals are charging Rs 12 to 13,000 for a 20-foot container and Rs 19 to 20,000 for a 40-foot container, sources concluded.
