Petrol price hike spills over to mobile market; handset prices rise by Rs3,000–5,000

KARACHI: The continuous increase in the prices of petroleum products in the country has now also affected the mobile phone market, where various companies have increased the prices of mobile phones by Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.

According to details, mobile phone manufacturing companies have increased the prices, justifying the increase in production costs.

Market sources say that after the recent increase in prices, there has been a significant decrease in consumer interest, while according to dealers, where ten to twelve mobile sets were sold daily earlier, now buyers have become cautious, and the trend of buying has decreased.

Not only mobile phones but also their associated accessories have become expensive. The prices of hands-free, mobile covers, screen protectors and other accessories have also increased, due to which more financial burden is being placed on consumers.

The business community says that the increase in the cost of petroleum products increases transportation and production costs, which directly affects the prices of goods sold in the market. They say that business activities are also being affected in the current situation.

On the other hand, citizens have demanded that the government reduce the prices of petroleum products to reduce the rising pressure of inflation and provide relief to the common man. According to experts, if this trend continues, not only the mobile market but also other sectors may be further affected.
