LAHORE: The Grocery Merchants Association Punjab has announced to stop sugar sales across the province from today, July 22, as the sugar crisis is getting severe in Pakistan.
Central President of the organization, Hafiz Arif Gujjar, has said that they cannot buy expensive sugar and sell it cheaply.
As per details, the retailers refused to sell sugar at Rs173 per kg fixed by the government and said they purchased it at Rs188 per kg and it was not possible for them to sell it at the official price.
He stated that the government has failed to provide the sugar at the ex-mill price of Rs 165 per kg.
According to the association, the sale of sugar will remain closed until mills and dealers form a mechanism for pricing with grocery merchants.
“Instead of ensuring sugar supply at the official price, the administration has started sealing shops and imposing heavy fines,” the President said.
He said that if the government provides us with Rs 165 per kg of sugar as per its announcement, we will sell it for Rs 173.
