TCP opens tenders for import of 100, 000 tonnes of sugar

Sugar prices decrease after govt crackdown

ISLAMABAD: The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on Monday opened tenders for the import of 100,000 metric tonnes of sugar.

On the special instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the entire process was telecast live on PTV to ensure transparency. Representatives of five companies were present at the tender opening ceremony. A representative of Transparency International also attended the tender opening ceremony.

TCP General Manager Shiraz Ali Shahzad opened the tender in front of all parties. The government of Pakistan had decided to import one hundred thousand tonnes of sugar to meet the demand for sugar in the country and stabilize prices.

Earlier, TCP had opened tenders for the import of 200,000 metric tonnes of sugar on August 21. The government has decided to import sugar officially through TCP. For the same purpose, bids were invited for the import of 100,000 tonnes of sugar on September 8.
