HEC warns against fake attendance notification in Punjab colleges

ISLAMABAD: A notification is circulating on social media claiming that the attendance requirement of students in government and private colleges and universities in Punjab has been lifted.

The document, allegedly dated January 17, 2026, instructs institutions not to withhold admissions or examinations of students on the basis of low attendance, nor to impose any fine or punishment related to attendance.

The notification also claims that strict legal and administrative action will be taken in case of non-compliance, while it is also signed by a section officer named Babar Khan Gondal.

After this notification went viral on social media, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has issued a clarification in this regard and has directed the public to be cautious. According to the HEC, this fake notification is being shared widely on social media platforms.

The commission has appealed to students, teachers and educational institutions to be vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information. HEC has advised that for authentic information, one should always refer to official websites and verified social media pages.
