LAHORE: As the winter season sets in, with temperatures gradually dipping, the government of Punjab is weighing the option of altering school timings to relieve students and teaching faculty.
Typically, the provincial government adjusts school hours from mid-October through February or March to shield children from the effects of inclement weather conditions while reaching schools early in the morning.
Presently, all Punjab schools start at 7:30 a.m., with the finishing time based on the grade level. Nursery and Prep sessions are generally earlier than higher-grade sessions.
School timings are expected to change later in the schedule to enable students to escape exposure to cold in early mornings. An announcement in that respect will be made in the next few days once the new schedule has been finalized.
Update on School Timings in October 2025
The timings of the new schools are likely to start from October 15, with delayed school beginning hours.
Schools would begin at 8:00 am or 8:30 am with varying closing hours. However, a final decision will be made by the Punjab government.
‘Coldest Winters’
At the same time, weathermen have alerted that the coming winters will be among the chilliest in recent times because La Niña, a weather phenomenon that results in a large decrease in temperatures, is likely to make a comeback.
If the forecast comes true, large parts of the globe would experience harsh cold snaps and snowfall.
