KARACHI: In a recent educational advancement, the Sindh Assembly has taken an effective step to form a parliamentary committee to investigate the matter of inter-board examinations, with Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah at the helm.

This move is to ensure that the children’s future is not endangered, considering the appointment of competent chairmen of education boards soon, which was assured by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar before the House.

During the recently held question-answer session related to the cooperative department, members of opposition, including Sabir Qaimkhani from the MQM, expressed their concern over the absence of officers from the cooperative department.

The Secretary Cooperative was, however, present in the officers’ gallery, and different questions put forth by the opposition were answered by the Parliamentary Secretary Khair-un-Nisa Mughal.

An MQM member, Fauzia Hameed, asked for information about plans to revive the cooperative bank for loans; Khair-un-Nisa Mughal informed her that she would collect the details and apprise the House.

Further questions were raised by MQM members, including Abdul Basit, who asked what the need was for the department if the cooperative societies are working independently.

Khair-un-Nisa Mughal explained that the government registers these societies and makes certain that elections are being held within the societies in a timely manner.

If corruption is discovered, any inquiries are legislated by the inquiry officer, and considerable cases are then referred to the Anti-Corruption Department.

Also, Dr. Fauzia Hameed asked about the accountability and transparency department, and Khair-un-Nisa Mughal said it is an audit process with inquiries and inspections accordingly, where an administrator is appointed under the ordinance in case of corruption, and fines being imposed accordingly.
