SARGODHA: A truck fell into a canal due to fog in Sargodha, killing 14 people and injuring several others, according to rescue officials.
The truck passengers were en route from Islamabad to Faisalabad. According to rescue officials, the canal was dry, with no water present.
23 people were travelling in a mini truck near the Gulpur Bangla area of Tehsil Kot Momin of Sargodha.
The truck fell into a dry canal due to low visibility and heavy fog. Seven people died on the spot after being crushed under the truck.
Rescue officials shifted the bodies and the injured to THQ Hospital, where another seven people died during treatment.
Rescue officials say that the deceased include three men, five women, and six children.
Motorway Fog
Major motorways have been closed for traffic due to heavy fog in different parts of the country, causing severe difficulties for passengers.
According to the Motorway Police, this decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to dangerously low visibility.
Motorway Police said that Motorway M-1 from Peshawar to Rashkai has been closed due to heavy fog, while Motorway M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chakri Interchange is closed for traffic.
Motorway M-3 from Faizpur to Jaranwala has been closed, while Motorway M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad is shrouded in heavy fog, and traffic is also suspended there.
In addition, Motorway M-11 from Lahore to Sambrial has been closed, while Motorway M-14 from Dawood Khel to Isa Khel is not available for traffic.
Motorway Police have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, use fog lights while traveling and avoid speeding.
