Ashura observed across Pakistan with mourning processions, strict security measures

ISLAMABAD: Ashura is being observed across Pakistan with religious devotion and solemnity in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the martyrs of Karbala.

Mourning processions, condolence gatherings and religious assemblies are being held in major cities and towns, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkur and Hyderabad. Participants are paying tribute to the sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family, and companions in the battle of Karbala.

Strict security arrangements have been put in place across the country to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura. Heavy contingents of police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed along procession routes and at gathering venues.

Authorities have blocked non-essential traffic on procession routes, while Section 144 has been imposed in sensitive areas. The display of weapons has also been prohibited as part of the security measures.

Special checkpoints have been established at various locations, and security personnel are conducting thorough monitoring to prevent any untoward incidents.

In view of security concerns, mobile phone and internet services have been partially suspended in certain areas, while pillion riding has also been banned in several cities to maintain law and order.

Religious scholars addressing gatherings are highlighting the message of patience, sacrifice, courage and steadfastness demonstrated by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). They are emphasizing the enduring significance of Karbala and its lessons of standing for truth and justice against oppression.

Ashura is observed annually by Muslims around the world to commemorate the sacrifices made in Karbala, which continue to inspire generations with the values of faith, resilience and righteousness.

Ashura Teaches Patience, Sacrifice and Truth: PM

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, while issuing a special message on the Day of Ashura, has said that the Day of Ashura teaches patience, perseverance, sacrifice, truthfulness and standing firm on principles.

The statement issued by the Prime Minister said that the Karbala incident gives a message that adherence to principles and values ​​is the foundation of a civilized society, and we need to promote the qualities of justice, fairness, patience, and responsibility.

He said that instead of differences, hatred, and chaos, it is necessary to promote respect and solidarity. Scholars, Mashaikhs, Zakirs, media should highlight the real message of the Day of Ashura. Promote interfaith respect and harmony, and stop provocation and hatred.

In addition, President Asif Ali Zardari, while issuing a message on the Day of Ashura, said that the Day of Ashura teaches patience, perseverance, sacrifice, truthfulness, and standing firm on principles.

The President said that the Karbala incident is not just a historical tragedy but a lasting message and a living lesson. Let us promote an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, respect, and brotherhood on the Day of Ashura.
