ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s (JCP) meeting, boycotted by PTI lawmakers and two apex court judges, has approved the appointment of 6 judges to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to the sources, the judicial commission appointed two judges from Sindh High Court (SHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC), while one each from Islamabad and Peshawar High Courts.
The meeting of the JCP was held to approve the names of eight judges for vacant Supreme Court positions, however, the meeting didn’t finalise the name(s) from Lahore High Court (LHC).
The appointed judges include Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, Justice Aamir Farooq, Justice Shafi Siddiqui, Justice Hashim Kakar, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
Earlier, PTI leader Barrister Gohar told reporters that the Judicial Commission meeting was set to decide on the appointment of eight judges. He added that PTI had filed petitions against the 26th Amendment, which were still pending.
Justice Shah and Justice Akhtar had also written letters requesting the postponement of the meeting, he noted. Additionally, Barrister Ali Zafar had written a letter making the same request.
