PESHAWAR: Pakistan has reported yet another case of polio virus, making it a total of 12 cases in the current year, according to the National Institute of Health, Islamabad.
A 33-month-old child in Bannu has been confirmed to have polio virus, taking the total number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year to 6, according to NIH.
The NIH said that so far in 2025, 12 polio cases have been reported from across the country, including 4 from Sindh, one each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan. The NIH said that southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is still a polio-sensitive area.
Earlier, the National Emergency Operations Centre said that at least 37,711 parents refused polio vaccination in the month of May.
This marks an increase in refusal cases as parents in the metropolis continue to decline vaccinating their children against polio.
As per the NEOC report, District East recorded the highest number of refusals, with 9,433 parents opting out in May, while at least 3,453 parents in District Korangi turned down the polio vaccination.
Furthermore, the District Central had 7,141 refusals, while Kemari saw 7,111 parents refusing the vaccine.
