24 people died after a bus fell into a river in Dhaka

DHAKA: A tragic accident in Bangladesh has plunged the entire country into mourning, where 24 people lost their lives after a passenger bus fell into a river.

The incident took place in Daulat Diya area of ​​Rajbari district, about 100 kilometers from the capital Dhaka.

According to media reports, the bus suddenly lost control and overturned and fell into the Padma River about 30 feet deep, due to which several people on board the bus drowned on the spot. Rescue teams reached the spot immediately after the accident and started rescue operations.

According to authorities, the dead include men, women and children. Two injured women died in the hospital, after which the death toll has reached 24. Rescue personnel have so far recovered 23 bodies from the river, while the operation to search for other missing persons is still ongoing.

Eyewitnesses say the bus lost control and fell, but an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities fear the death toll could rise.

The government has promised a thorough investigation into the incident and action against those responsible.
