ISLAMABAD: Goods transporters across the country have decided to increase fares and announced an increase of up to 20 percent.

President of the Transport Alliance, Shahzad Awan, says that the transport sector is facing serious difficulties due to the huge increase in the prices of diesel and petrol.

He said that due to the increase in the cost of petroleum products, there is a risk of a new wave of inflation in the country, which will have a direct impact on the prices of common citizens and essential commodities.

Shahzad Awan demanded that the government reduce toll tax and other taxes so that transporters get some relief. He said that the agreements made in the past to end the strike have not been implemented yet.

He demanded that the federal and provincial governments fulfill the promises made to the transporters and immediately resolve the problems of the transport sector.
