LAHORE: In recent days, a news story is going viral on social media claiming that Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced the closure of home-based tuition centers across Punjab.

This news came to light when 14 innocent children lost their lives in a tragic incident last month when the roof of a tuition center collapsed in Kahna area of Lahore.

After this incident, a picture went viral on social media on July 1, claiming that it has been decided to close all tuition centers in residential areas.

However, the reality is the opposite, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat did not say anything about banning all tuition centers, he only hinted at action against those unregistered academies that are not following the prescribed rules and regulations or have failed to obtain the required fitness certificate.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also clarified in a message that he had not made any announcement regarding the closure of all tuition centers.

The Education Minister said that from September, only those unregistered academies that do not meet the safety requirements and cannot obtain the necessary fitness certificates will be closed.

He also said that the authority to register tuition centers lies with the concerned Deputy Commissioners and a detailed survey of such centers is currently underway across Punjab.
