CALIFORNIA: Famous Hollywood veteran actor Hal Williams has died at the age of 91 on July 15 following a serious health issue.
Williams’ manager, Zna Portlock Houston, said that the actor died of natural causes in the early hours of Wednesday morning (July 15) at his home in Rancho Mirage, California.
The actor was born on December 14, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as a postal worker and as a correctional officer prior to moving to Hollywood in 1968 to become an actor.
Williams acted in several television shows during the 1970s, such as The Jimmy Stewart Show and That Girl, until he played a recurring role as the friendly neighborhood police officer named Smitty on Sanford and Son.
Other television roles played by Williams include that of Harley Foster on The Waltons, Lester DeMott on the ABC television comedy series On the Rocks, and Sergeant Ted Ross in the CBS television comedy series Private Benjamin.
Moreover, Williams reprised his role as Officer Smitty in the Sanford spinoff from 1980 to 1981.
The filmography of the actor includes Herbie Rides Again, On the Nickel, The Rookie, The Cherokee Kid, Guess Who, among others.
Williams was twice married and divorced. He leaves behind three children.
