Lahore Railway Station free Wi-Fi service has reportedly been suspended, leaving passengers without internet access. Officials say the disruption occurred after payments to the private internet service provider were not cleared.
Commuters arriving at the station still see QR codes and posters promoting the free Wi-Fi, but attempts to connect fail. Many travelers expressed frustration, noting that the outdated signage creates confusion and adds to the inconvenience of waiting for delayed trains.
Sources confirmed that the private company responsible for installing and managing the service removed its equipment from the station. The Wi-Fi devices, previously installed at the main entrance and platforms two and four, are no longer operational.
The free Wi-Fi initiative was introduced under the direction of Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and rolled out at major railway stations across Pakistan, including Lahore and Karachi. The project aimed to provide travelers with reliable internet access while waiting for their trains.
Passengers have urged authorities to either restore the service promptly or remove the misleading QR codes and signage. “It’s confusing to see the posters when the network doesn’t work. We need clarity,” said a commuter.
The suspension highlights growing concerns about infrastructure maintenance at Pakistan Railways facilities. As digital connectivity becomes increasingly important for travelers, the absence of free Wi-Fi at key stations may impact passenger satisfaction and overall convenience.
Authorities have yet to announce a timeline for restoring the service, leaving many travelers uncertain about when they can expect the network to be operational again.
