The HEC Maktab student records system has been officially launched to digitally manage complete academic data of students across Pakistan. The initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in higher education through a centralized digital platform.
Under the HEC Maktab student records framework, student enrolment, grades, transcripts, and degrees will be tracked securely from admission to graduation.
HEC Maktab Student Records Rollout Plan
Minister of State for Federal Education Wajiha Qamar announced the launch while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday.
She said the system has been introduced under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and will initially be implemented in 25 public universities, with plans to expand it to all public sector universities nationwide.
How HEC Maktab Student Records Will Work
According to the minister, the HEC Maktab student records system will maintain complete academic histories of students on a single digital platform.
The system will include enrolment data, academic performance, transcripts, and degree issuance records. This digital process is expected to reduce delays and eliminate manual verification issues.
Use of AI in Education Monitoring
Wajiha Qamar said the government plans to integrate artificial intelligence into education management systems.
She noted that monitoring within the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is already conducted through digital portals, while an AI-based portal is nearing completion. These tools will further strengthen oversight and data security.
Transparency Through Digital Oversight
The minister said digitisation has improved tracking and accountability across departments.
She added that tender scrutiny is now carried out digitally, which has enhanced transparency and reduced procedural delays. Digital complaint mechanisms are also available for students and parents.
Wider Education Reforms Linked to Maktab
The HEC Maktab student records initiative is part of broader reforms to modernise Pakistan’s education system.
Qamar said a central e-portal has been introduced for BS programme admissions under FDE, benefiting around 4,000 students in the initial phase. The system will later be expanded to other programmes.
IBCC and Student Services Digitisation
She also highlighted reforms at the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), where a 24-hour online system for equivalence and verification has been introduced using a single ID.
The process has accelerated registration for international boards and improved service delivery.
Long-Term Education Goals
The minister said these reforms aim to enhance education quality, improve transparency, and strengthen Pakistan’s global academic standing.
She added that while results will take time, the digital transformation is designed to deliver consistent improvements for students nationwide.
